06 NIGHTS 07 DAYS - Ladakh: The Land of High Passe
A land of chilly winds and smoldering hot sunbeams, a cold barren region in the rain shadow of the splendid Great Himalayas, Ladakh, is flanked by two of the world's most imposing mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram. The region is bestowed with utter serenity and nature's grandeur. There are myriad reasons for a traveller to visit this extremely enticing part of land. The itinerary to the land of the high passes takes the traveller to Khardung La, which is the highest motorable pass on the blue planet. This tour also makes the tourist explore some of the most wonderful monasteries in Ladakh, comprising Hemis, Shey and Thiksey Gompas. The tour also allows the traveller to explore amazingly beautiful Pangong Lake. In a nutshell, the itinerary is perfect for all those who are a nature admirer by heart.
Day 1: Arrive Leh
On arrival at Leh airport, our executive will be there to receive you at the airport and transfer to your pre booked hotel. After check in at the hotel, relax for the whole day. This is important for getting acclimatised. An overnight stay at the guesthouse.
Day 2: Leh - Shey - Thiksey - Hemis
Today we will be going for the sightseeing tour to some ancient monasteries of Leh. We will be visiting Shey Gompa, Thiksey Gompa and Hemis monastery. Later return back to the hotel/guesthouse for an overnight stay.
Shey Gompa is about 15 kms from Leh. It used to be the summer palace of the kings of Ladakh. There are lots of Stupas and Gompas built around the palace. Shey Gompa was built in the beginning of 17th century AD by Deldan Namgyal. One of the major attractions in Shey is the 12m Shakyamuni Buddha statue located inside the Dresthang Gompa.
Thiksey Gompa is located close to Shey and is about 17 kms from Leh. This monastery is considered to be one of the most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh and belongs to the Gelukspa order.
Hemis monastery is about 45 kms south of Leh. It is one of the most famous and largest monasteries in Ladakh. This beautiful monastery belongs to the Drukpa order and was founded in the early 17th century. The setting is perfect with the monastery cradled in a lovely valley, surrounded by streams and fronted by long Mani walls.
Day 3: Leh - Pangong Lake (145 kms per way)
In the morning after breakfast we will drive to Pangong Lake.
Pangong Lake in Ladakh is the highest brackish lake in the world located at a height of 14,256 feet above the sea level. A few years back the government decided to open it to tourists though, the lake and its surrounding is under army surveillance. In the evening we will drive back to Leh for an overnight stay.
Day 4: Leh - Khardung La - Leh (39 Kms)
After breakfast in the morning, we will drive to the north of Leh up to Khardung La., a mountain pass located at a height of 5570 m/18380 ft. Here, we will pass through one of the highest motorable roads of the world. After exploring the area, we will drive back to Leh by afternoon. In the evening, one can take a walk to Leh Market for the last minute shopping. An overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 5:
Leh - Lamayuru
In the morning after breakfast, we will drive towards Lamayuru and visit the Lamayuru monastery. Later enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel in Lamayuru.
Day 6: Lamayuru - Likir - Leh
Today after breakfast in the morning, we will check out from the hotel and take a drive to the Likir. This is starting point of the Sham trek. Later drive to Leh for an overnight stay.
Day 7: Leh - Home
In the morning after breakfast, we will transfer to the airport to catch the flight for your home destination.
